Non-explosive hydrogen and helium burnings: Abundance predictions from the NACRE reaction rate compilation⋆
نویسندگان
چکیده
The abundances of the isotopes of the elements from C to Al produced by the non-explosive CNO, NeNa and MgAl modes of hydrogen burning, as well as by helium burning, are calculated with the thermonuclear rates recommended by the European compilation of reaction rates for astrophysics (NACRE). The impact of nuclear physics uncertainties on the derived abundances is discussed in the framework of a simple parametric astrophysical model. These calculations have the virtue of being a guide in the selection of the nuclear uncertainties that have to be duly analyzed in detailed model stars, particularly in order to perform meaningful confrontations between abundance observations and predictions. They are also hoped to help nuclear astrophysicists pinpointing the rate uncertainties that have to be reduced most urgently.

The nuclear processes responsible for the CNO synthesis
The abundances of the isotopes of the elements C, N and O are mainly affected by the cold CNO cycles in non-explosive stellar situations, or by the hot CNO chains that can develop in certain explosive sites, like classical novae. Helium burning phases can modify the composition of the ashes of the CNO transmutations through several α-capture reactions, the most famed one being 12 C (α , γ) 16 O...

Nucleosynthesis in evolved (RGB and AGB) low-mass stars is reviewed under the light of the reaction rates recommended in the NACRE compilation (Angulo et al. 1999). We use a parametric model of stellar nucleosynthesis to investigate the uncertainties that still exist nowadays on the nuclear data and to give a critical point of view on the resulting evolution of the chemical abundances. We discu...
متن کاملBRUSLIB and NETGEN: the Brussels nuclear reaction rate library and nuclear network generator for astrophysics
Nuclear reaction rates are quantities of fundamental importance in astrophysics. Substantial efforts have been devoted in the last decades to measure or calculate them. The present paper presents for the first time a detailed description of the Brussels nuclear reaction rate library BRUSLIB and of the nuclear network generator NETGEN in a journal and in a format so as to make these nuclear data...
متن کاملThe Nacre Thermonuclear Reaction Compilation and Big Bang Nucleosynthesis
The theoretical predictions of big bang nucleosynthesis (BBN) are dominated by uncertainties in the input nuclear reaction cross sections. In this paper, we examine the impact on BBN of the recent compilation of nuclear data and thermonuclear reactions rates by the NACRE collaboration. We confirm that the adopted rates do not make large overall changes in central values of predictions, but do a...

Observations of light isotopes have flourished and in particular, high quality Li observations in the halo stars have been accumulated. Thus, it is timely to reassess the determination of the baryonic density of the Universe in the light of advances in nuclear physics and astronomical observations. (For details see K. Olive, these proceedings.) Most of the important reactions for Li production ...
